Greeting
I am deeply honored and grateful to have been elected as the 14th President of the Asian Organization for Crohn’s and Colitis (AOCC).
Compared to the US or Europe, the field of IBD in Asia is still developing and has much work to be done. This is because IBD emerged in Asia much later than in the West, and its recent growth rate has accelerated, leaving Asian countries with insufficient time to establish adequate treatment infrastructure and prepare for improved quality of care. While my tenure as president of the society is short, I will strive to expedite progress and improve the quality of life for Asian patients.
The AOCC has demonstrated its capabilities as Asia's leading IBD society through 13 successful annual meetings. As the 14th President of the AOCC, I aim to compile epidemiological data on IBD incidence and prevalence across Asian countries, identify the causes of the recent rapid increase in IBD patients in Asia, establish treatment guidelines tailored to the characteristics of Asian patients, introduce intestinal ultrasound examinations with less risk and burden on patients, and strengthen the status of the AOCC journal, Intestinal Research. To successfully carry out these projects, I will encourage the active participation of committees and TFTs within the AOCC.
Let us all work together to continuously improve the quality of life for IBD patients in Asia.
